Chapter Twenty-eight

Pandering:

To solicit customers for a prostitute. A pimp, who procures customers for a prostitute or lures a woman into prostitution, all for her profit.

That was Jada West.

After Jada was arrested and processed into the system, she was placed in a holding cell with all the rest of the working girls. There were independent escorts, as well as escorts that worked through an agency. There were a couple of girls that worked hotels and bars, and of course there were the streetwalkers.

Glad that she didn’t wear the ivory Valentino silk dress that she was thinking about and chose the black Erdem lace jumpsuit instead, Jada wiped off a spot on the bench, sat down, and in her usual lady-like manner, crossed her leg, and placed her hands on her knee.

It didn’t take long before one of her fellow inmates approached Jada and asked what she was in for. Once she told them what she was in for, and they saw the jewelry that Jada was wearing, just about all of them wanted to work for Jada, so she had the pick of the litter. Since streetwalkers were out of the question because they would never measure up to her standards, Jada chose Francesca Del Carpi. She was a beautiful independent who had been working hotels and trying unsuccessfully to stay away from the public eye. Francesca told Jada that she had grown tired of being harassed by pimps and hassled by the police. “I’m just looking for a home.”

And the other lady was Javonna Logan. Although she worked for an agency, Javonna had the same experience with pimps and the police. Jada was sure that both of them would be excellent for Mercedes.

Jada had been there for just over an hour when a guard came and began unlocking the cell door. “Jada West. You’re outta here.”

Jada stood up, and the ladies said goodbye to her. “See you around, Jada,” one said.

“Don’t forget about me,” another said.

Jada looked directly at Francesca and Javonna. “I’m sure I’ll be in touch soon.”

The officer escorted Jada to an interrogation room, and it wasn’t long before Lieutenant Gineconna and Detective Sam Wallace came in the room. Jada smiled when she saw Detective Wallace because she realized that he was the cop that tried her in the days when she used to work her ladies out of Sensations. “So we meet again,” Wallace said.

“I’m sure the pleasure is all yours,” Jada said defiantly.

“Would you like to wait to have a lawyer present?” Gineconna asked.

“I’m sure my attorney will be here shortly.”

“So you’re waving your right to have an attorney present during questioning?” Wallace asked.

“Oh, I said nothing of the sort, Mr. Wallace,” Jada said politely. “However, the time will pass so much quicker if we chat until he gets here.”

“You’re in a lot of trouble, Ms. West,” Gineconna began.

Jada glanced at her watch. “Yes, I am, Lieutenant Gineconna. After all, I am in jail.”

This broad got nerve, Gineconna thought. “You’re being charged with several violations of New York Penal Law,” he continued.
